Inpatient Services

The Cook Hospital is a beautiful, 14-bed, acute care, Critical Access Hospital with a fully staffed emergency room open 24 hours a day, seven days a week serving a 2500 square mile region of wilderness and recreational territory. We offer much of the same care you will find in larger facilities, with a small town, family atmosphere.

Inpatient services offered include acute care admissions, swing bed care, transitional care and observation status. Cardiac monitoring is available and all nursing staff is trained to care for patients requiring cardiac monitoring.

The eight hospital rooms, including two private rooms, are decorated with an “up north” feel. One room is designed to be an isolation room, with a negative air pressure to ensure infection containment. Inpatient rooms have private wheelchair-accessible shower areas, and there is a second sink in the room for handwashing. All patient meals are prepared in the facility kitchen, however there is a kitchen area with snack items and an ice dispenser.

Inpatient hospice and respite care is available at the Cook Hospital by arrangement with Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care (SMH&PC) a division of St. Mary’s Medical Center. A plan of care is managed by hospice arrangements under the contract between the Cook Hospital and SMH&PC. Respite care is also managed for a maximum of 5 days under the same arrangement with SMH&PC. Virgie Hegg Hospice Partners (VHHP) is a volunteer organization locally raising funds to assist those with hospice needs and respite needs related to hospice care. For more information, visit the VHHP website at www.vhhp.org.
